Artefacto is the name of this full-bodied wine from the Alentejo, the area in the southeast of Portugal. Like many Portuguese wines, this one is also made from local grape varieties. It consists of a blend of three. The aragonez is the Portuguese version of the Spanish tempranillo. Alicante bouschet and trincadeira are actually only found in Portugal. Artefacto looks contemporary, with a sleek label. It tastes very pure, bursting with ripe fruit, is powerful and soft at the same time. It owes that soft, supple structure, among other things, to the aging in oak barrels. This is a nice wine for duck, roe and other meat, but you can also drink it just like that if you feel like a solid glass of red.
