Guinness West Indies porter

0.5 l

    Extra information

    Beer

In 1801, the brewers of Guinness took on the challenge of brewing a Porter that could maintain its quality during weeks and sometimes months of sea voyages to the tropical English colonies. The idea was to make a beer that was extra hopped and heavier than the 'city' beer that was drunk in the pubs of Dublin and London. That new beer not only survived the long journey, it grew into a beer in its own right. Based on the recipe from 1801, this beer is an intensely flavorful porter: complex, yet quite smooth, hoppy with notes of toffee and chocolate. This beer is closely related to the porter that was drunk about two centuries ago by those who lived and traveled the Caribbean.
