Multitalented Ilja Gort is known for his Tulipe wines and for the books and TV programs in which he talks about his hectic life as a Dutch winemaker in France. Back in the eighties and nineties, he made a name for himself with the advertising tunes he composed. With the money he earned in music, Gort bought Chateau la Garde in Saint-Romain-La-Virvee, not far from Saint-Emilion, in 1994. What started as a hobby became serious business when Albert Heijn added Ilja's Tulipes to its range. A few years ago, perfectionist Gort got stuck: it was not possible to make his wines a little more exciting. That is why he enlisted the help of wine guru and near-neighbor: Michel Rolland, perhaps the most influential winemaker in the world. Gort: 'According to expert juries, our wines are now more elegant and energetic. I especially like them better, wines to enjoy with a very satisfied soft slobbering.'.
