Catena Malbec

By planting the grapes at very high altitudes and selecting the best clones, Nicolás Catena achieved the finest results with the Malbec grape. The grapes needed the altitude to develop beautiful ripe fruit flavors and smooth, soft tannins. After this discovery, many other Argentine winemakers followed his example, and Malbec has since become the national grape. Catena is one of the most prestigious wineries in Argentina. Catena’s grapes are also grown at prestigious altitudes: the vineyards lie between 800 and 1,500 meters. This makes them among the highest vineyards in the world, which immediately explains the freshness in the wines.
