For this special skin contact wine, the grapes ferment with their skins. That is why it has an extra rich flavour and is somewhat fuller-bodied. The muscat grape makes it fragrant and it pairs well with spicy dishes. Colour, taste: white, full-bodied and dry Grape variety: chenin blanc, muscat of Alexandria Country, region: South Africa, Breede River Valley Goes well with: Fish, Chicken Awarded: De Grote Hamersma 9 - Skin Contact is the name of this wine from the Daschbosch Winery in South Africa. Another name for skin contact is orange wine. That name refers to a special method of winemaking where the grapes ferment with their skins. So it is actually a white wine made in the style of red wine. Grape skins contain colouring matter, tannin and extra flavour compounds that are released when they are not separated from the juice but left to ferment together. That is exactly what the winemaker at Daschbosch did for this wine made from chenin blanc and muscat. As a result, it has more colour, aroma, flavour and a firmer structure than ordinary white wines. It is delightful to drink on its own and also pairs perfectly with spicy Arabian dishes and Thai curries. Do not serve it too cold. Take it out of the fridge about half an hour before use.
