Dom Berthet-Rayne Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most famous Rhône wine of all. The name means “the new castle of the pope.” In the 14th century the papal court moved to Avignon. Just north of the city they built the summer residence: Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And because the pope also had to be able to drink his wine there, he had a vineyard planted. It turned out to have divine soil for divine (organic) grapes. If you don’t believe it, you’ll just have to taste it. This beautiful winery is located on the left bank of the Rhône between Orange and Avignon. By now, the fourth generation of this family is already making its wines here with great love. Organically. And with vineyards on 26 hectares of wine-growing land.
