Color, taste: white, fresh and dry Grape variety: riesling Country, region: Germany, Mosel Nice with: Salad, Fish Awarded: De Grote Hamersma 8.5 With a wine bearing the AH Excellent Selection label, you can be sure it is good and typical for its kind and origin. This is the message our buyers carry when they look for new AH Excellent wines. For this riesling, they stayed close to home. It comes from the Moselle, about 400 km from Zaandam. Just across the German border lies one of the most spectacular wine regions in the world. The grapes grow on extremely steep slopes (= Steillage), on a black slate soil, which allows them to catch all the light and warmth of the sun. The exact result naturally depends on the harvest year with cooler and warmer summers, but a Mosel riesling trocken always tastes fresh-dry with citrus fruit and very special acids that cannot be compared to anything else. This is due to the mineral-rich soil. Drink it chilled, alone or with salads, fish, sushi, and light Thai dishes.
