Graham's Late Bottled Vintage, like a Vintage Port, comes from a single year. However, this year is not a "declared" Vintage Port. Vintage Port matures only two years in barrels and then continues to mature in the bottle. LBV matures in barrels and is only bottled after four to six years. This longer aging in wood speeds up the development of the port. As a result, Graham's Late Bottled Vintage is ready to drink as soon as it is bottled. Decanting is therefore not necessary. A ripe style port with great concentration and complexity, along with much structure and a perfect balance. Graham's was founded in 1820 by W & J Graham in the Portuguese Douro Valley. Since then, it has built a reputation as one of the most esteemed port houses. This reputation is based on the choice of the best quality grapes, mainly coming from five estates, which belong to the best in the high-lying Douro valley: Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua, Quinta das Lages (in the Rio Torto) and two others, Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta do Vale de Malhadas, privately owned by the Symington family. These estates benefit from an ideal combination of a hot and dry microclimate with a unique slate soil that forms the best condition for optimal ripening of the grapes.
