This Grüner Veltliner does not come from Austria, but from Argentina. It grows at an altitude of 1,040 meters, giving it a sparkling fresh and gentle taste. With pear, peach, and citrus fruit. An ideal drink for a gathering. Color, taste: white, fresh, and dry Grape variety: Grüner Veltliner Country, region: Argentina, Mendoza Delicious with: Salad, Fish Awarded: De Grote Hamersma 7.5 This is special: an Argentine wine made from the quintessentially Austrian Grüner Veltliner grape. Yet it is less strange than you might think when you know that Bodega Norton is owned by Gernot Langes-Swarovski from Austria, known for crystal and jewelry. At Norton, the Argentine winemaker David Bonomi, named one of the ten best winemakers in South America in 2020, makes wines from Malbec and international grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The cultivation of Grüner Veltliner began as a hobby of the Austrian owner but turned out to thrive best in Mendoza. It grows there at 1,040 meters altitude. The sunny days and cool nights create a sparkling fresh wine with cool notes of green apple and citrus and the soft taste of ripe pear and peach. A delightful glass on its own and lovely with salads, vegetable dishes, fish, and chicken.
