Seductively tasty, full-fruited wine with a bite that you can pair with all sorts of dishes. Pasta, stew, cheese, and even dark chocolate, according to the winemaker. Color, taste: red, robust Grape variety: montepulciano d'abruzzo Country, region: Italy, Abruzzo Good with: Beef, Pork Awarded: De Grote Hamersma 8.5 This is the wine that made Abruzzo known as a wine region. It is made from the native montepulciano grape. In Abruzzo, they have many grape varieties that you rarely find outside the region. That makes the area special. The Ulisse family cultivates only those types that have traditionally belonged to Abruzzo, such as the almost forgotten pecorino, the trebbiano d’Abruzzo, and this montepulciano. It has the pleasant sweet-sour taste characteristic of many Italian red wines. At Ulisse, they cherish the fruity aromas by not aging the wine in wooden barrels, but in stainless steel tanks that do not impart any flavor. You taste cherry, berry, also the floral notes of violets and some spiciness. You can eat all kinds of dishes with this, whether you feel like spaghetti bolognese or a hearty steak. Or simply enjoy a glass on its own.
