Viña la Rosa La Capitana Carménère
Capitana refers to the very largest palm tree on this wine estate, which stands right in the middle of the vineyards. The Carmenère grape originally comes from France, but is used to make excellent wines in Chile—so good that this grape is now often called a “native grape of Chile”! A concentrated wine with flavours of sweet plums, blackcurrants and a hint of dark chocolate. A soft mouthfeel with smooth tannins. Founded in 1824, Viña la Rosa is one of Chile’s oldest wine companies. In 1824 Don Francisco Ignacio decided to buy a hacienda for his firstborn son. He fell in love with the beautiful landscape of the Cachapoal Valley, 120 kilometres south of Santiago. He bought the hacienda from Chile’s first president, Manuel Encalada. The purchase included not only the farm, but also wine barrels, wine cellars and grapevines imported from France. Since then, the family has devoted itself with great passion to viticulture. Today, the sixth generation is at the helm of this wine company.
