Three years ago, Leonie flew with her husband to visit his family in India and there she discovered authentic Indian masala chai. She was immediately won over – this was so much more delicious than the chai latte you could get in the Netherlands! Back home, she started brewing chai herself and spent a long time experimenting to create the perfect recipe, which also happens to be vegan and contains much less sugar! For years we’ve been drinking chai in the Netherlands made from powders or concentrates, which has little to do with authentic chai. Something had to change, and that’s how Mamaschai was born.
