In this blog, we dive into the rich history of Calvé, a brand that has been inseparably linked to the Dutch dining table since 1883. From the iconic Calvé peanut butter to mayonnaise and sauces: Calvé stands for quality, simplicity, and taste. We also share a delicious recipe for Dutch peanut soup, made with Calvé peanut butter – a heartwarming dish that you can easily make at home. Discover how Calvé has represented the taste of home for generations, wherever you are.

The taste of home, since 1883

At Dutchshopper, everything revolves around the familiar feeling of a Dutch pantry – and of course that includes Calvé. Whether you live in Sweden, Spain or Canada: that first bite of a sandwich with Calvé peanut butter instantly takes you back home.

A piece of history: Calvé since 1883

Did you know that Calvé is one of the oldest food brands in the Netherlands? It all started in 1883, when the Dutch Oil Factory (NOF) was founded in Delft.

In 1898, NOF merged with the French company Calvé, creating Calvé-Delft. The brand quickly grew into a trusted name throughout the Netherlands – first with oils and margarines, later with mayonnaises, sauces and of course… peanut butter.

Over the years, Calvé has always stayed close to the Dutch kitchen: reliable, simple and tasty. And with commercials that have now become part of the collective memory of the Netherlands ("Who didn’t grow up with it?").

The classic: Calvé Peanut Butter

Every Dutch person grew up with it. That recognizable jar, the oil you stir briefly, and that full, creamy taste without fuss. No added sugar or artificial additives – just peanuts and a pinch of salt.

Perfect on bread, in your smoothie, or... just with a spoon straight from the jar (we won’t say anything 😉).

More than peanut butter: sauces for every snack

Whether you’re serving a portion of bitterballen or frying homemade fries: Calvé sauces complete the experience. Think of:

  • Calvé Mayonnaise – Creamy, fresh and just that little bit tangy.
  • Calvé Curry Ketchup – Essential with the frikandel speciaal.
  • Calvé Satay Sauce – Perfect for the BBQ or over your nasi.

Did you know you can also make delicious peanut soup with Calvé satay sauce?
