    The name Pellegrino is a household name in the wine world of Sicily. The family business was founded in Marsala in 1880 by Paolo Pellegrino. Pellegrino has now grown into a major company with a total of 400 hectares of vineyard under its own ownership, spread over the best parts of the island, especially in the western part. The heart of Carlo Pellegrino beats in the historic wine cellars of the ancient town of Marsala. This is where the famous Marsala comes from, as well as sherry, madeira and port, a wine fortified with alcohol. Marsala is a fascinating wine, made from indigenous grapes such as grillo, cataratto and inzolia. Marsala always matures in wooden barrels, the most beautiful sometimes for more than 20 years, partly in barriques.
