    Wine

Peter Yealands, the owner of Flaxbourne, has not always been a winemaker. He once started as a mussel farmer and set up sustainable aquaculture on the South Island of New Zealand. He then started a reindeer herd. His wish was to do something with the rugged Awatere foothills one day. As soon as he, together with his wife Vai, got the chance to buy this land, he threw himself into sustainable viticulture. Everyone thought Yealands crazy when he planted vines on that stormy point of the South Island. Your grapes will blow apart, they warned, but Peter believed that thanks to the cool wind, the grapes would develop even more fruity aromas and delicate, crisp acidity. And he was right. All Flaxbourne wines taste distinctly aromatic and crisply fresh.
