In the past, during the 80s and 90s, he made a name for himself with the advertising jingles he composed. With the money he earned from music, Gort bought Château la Garde in Saint-Romain-La-Virvée in 1994, not far from Saint-Emilion. What started as a hobby became serious business when Albert Heijn included Ilja's Tulipes in their range. A few years ago, perfectionist Gort hit a wall: he could not make his wines a bit more exciting. That is why he called on the help of wine expert and near neighbour Michel Rolland, perhaps the most influential winemaker in the world. Gort: 'According to expert panels, our wines are now more elegant and lively. I find them especially tastier, wines to enjoy very contentedly with a gentle sip.'
