"Oyster sauce is a dark-colored sauce with oyster extract, commonly used in oriental cuisine. It has a sweetish taste and is often used in combination with meat and vegetables. Oyster sauce is used in marinades, to flavor dishes or as a table sauce. It has the typical "umami" taste and is the fifth basic taste next to salty, sour, sweet and bitter."
