This Oldtimers Mix is made for true liquorice lovers, in beautiful Jirnsum right by the little river the Boorne in Friesland. Made only from the very best ingredients, such as real gum arabic, liquorice root and maple syrup, which give it a wonderful texture and a rich, sweet liquorice flavour. With only natural colours and flavourings, and without gluten or gelatine. Exactly as Jochum Douwenga intended. Oldtimers: flavour with character since 1924.

August 1972. Everyone was looking forward again to the annual village festival in Jirnsum. Three days of festivities like Frisian handball (kaatsen), bingo and the famous baking contest. My neighbour Ytse made a sign that was to be put up on the festival grounds. He could paint, but spelling wasn’t his strong suit. Everyone had a good laugh when, in big, elegant letters, it said PROUD OF OUR LIQUORICE instead of PROUD OF OUR VILLAGE. That’s when the organisers came up with the playful idea of choosing this year’s tastiest Oldtimers liquorice sweet from our local liquorice factory! After three days of tasting and voting, I got to announce the result. And what did it turn out? There were no fewer than four winners. All equally popular. That’s why they’re now available together: Jochum’s Favourites. That way, no one has to choose anymore.
