The cooling breeze from the Adriatic Sea gives this Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi a fresh, juicy taste. With apple, pear, and almond. Delicious on its own and with light dishes. Colour, taste: white, fresh and dry Grape variety: verdicchio, malvasia Country, region: Italy, Marche Delicious with: salad, fish Awarded: De Grote Hamersma 8+ Verdicchio is an Italian grape that grows in the Marche region (Marche), in central Italy. The climate there is warm, but the wind from the Adriatic Sea brings cooling, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly. Verdicchio produces juicy, fresh white wines in which, besides apple, pear, and citrus fruit, you also taste blanched almond. That subtle nutty bitterness makes the wine just a bit different—and extra delicious. You can enjoy it very relaxed as an aperitif, with or without snacks, but it’s certainly also suitable with light dishes such as a salad with chicken or fish. Jesi is the name of the village in the traditional Classico area, the zone the wine originally comes from.
