It is a so-called fortified wine. It tastes sweeter and stronger than 'regular' wine because the winemaker adds alcohol when the grapes have just started fermenting. This kills the yeast cells, stopping the conversion of sugar into alcohol immediately, leaving the unfermented grape sugar behind. That gives port its sweet taste. There are different types of port. Ruby has a ruby-red color and the taste of fresh red fruit like cherry and berry. It is a pleasant wine to enjoy socially. Also try it with a dessert of chocolate and red summer fruits.
