Limburg sour pie is a typical product from Maastricht. It owes its name to the slow cooking in a broth of fresh natural vinegar, herbs, and gelatin. This gives a delightful, fresh and sour taste. This recipe is already three generations old and has been made this way for 50 years. Sour pie is made from pork raised by Limburg farmers, with a touch of nutmeg. Best enjoyed on Limburg black bread, optionally with mustard and a pickle. The village butcher shop of Hulsberg has been in the hands of the Van Jack Keulen family for many years. In 1983, he and his wife Tonny took over the butcher shop from his parents. He has always had a great passion for the butcher’s craft. His craftsmanship has been awarded several times over the years.
