    It all started in 1985 when a local Chicago boy, Chef Larry, perfected his family's recipe for a sweet and spicy barbecue sauce and entered one of the country's biggest cooking competitions, the Mike Royko Rib-off. Larry named his sauce after Sweet Baby Ray, which was his little brother's nickname at the time. On the day of the cooking competition, Larry defeated almost 700 participants, a great achievement for an unknown chef. The rest, as they say, is history.
