Madeira or Madeira is a fortified, very long-lasting wine from the island of Madeira. Originally, Madeira was made from four types of grapes, each with its own taste characteristic ranging from sweet to dry. Nowadays, most Madeira is made from one grape variety (Tinta Negra) that grows better there. However, the four types of Madeira are produced from that one grape variety.
* Widely used in soups, sauces and stews.
